BlueStacks and Bluetooth

May 24, 2013 @ No comments yet

Have you wonder about transferring files using Bluetooth to phone or tablet devices from BlueStacks or vice versa?. Well, you can’t because BlueStacks doesn’t support Bluetooth at this moment (even until the last update on may 2013). Fortunately you can send and receive from your laptop to mobile devices, and fortunately again there are several shared folders available for PC and BlueStacks. The tricks is by using pc to send or receive files between mobile devices and BlueStacks.

As we all know we can use My Picture and My Document libraries for both Windows and BlueStacks. As default on Windows, Bluetooth folder is located on My Documents\Bluetooth Folder. On BlueStacks this folder will be located on /mnt/bstfolder/Documents/Bluetooth Folder.

Prepairing Windows, BlueStacks Bluetooth

Make sure your laptop available to other devices. To do this:

  • Right click on tray icon
  • Select Open Settings
  • Check-on Allow Bluetooth devices to find this computer

Sending and Receiving files

Receiving files on BlueStacks

  • Send a file (picture, music or video) from mobile device to laptop
  • Open BlueStacks.
  • Run ES Files Explorer (install if you don’t have this app).
  • On folder list, select bstfolder
  • Select Documents and then Bluetooth Folder
  • You’ll can see received files in this folder.

Send Files from BlueStacks

  • Copy those files into Bluetooth folder (using file manager such as ES File Explorer)
  • On Windows, open Bluetooth folder (inside My Documents).
  • Click on files you’ve put before from BlueStacks (you can select multiple files).
  • Right click and navigate to Send By Bluetooth to.. menu.

send files

  • And then select a mobile device name.
  • Wait until transfer process completed.

This tricks is actually a basic Windows Bluetooth transfer and an additional files sharing between Windows and BlueStacks trick. Unfortunately this trick work only for file transfer and not for other things such as Gaming with Bluetooth on BlueStacks. So until it’s officially suported by BlueStacks, i guess this is the only way to transfer files between BlueStacks and other mobile devices.
